As students head back-to-school this week, middle and high school teachers are receiving a pencil pouch with a collection of brochures. They give information about resources available to youth and families who are experiencing homelessness.
Nationally, 1 in 30 students experience homelessness at some point during the school year. Teachers may become aware of students in their classes who are looking for resources and supports. They can hand them this pencil pouch which could help connect the students with organizations ready to assist.
The pencil pouches have been compiled by the Youth & Young Adult Subcommittee of the Mid-Willamette Valley Homeless Alliance and are being distributed to Polk County teachers by the School-Based Mental Health Team. Thank you!
